How The Hell Do You Solve This!?

  • 5q^2.... q^2
    ------ - ------ = 72
    6.........3

    I keep trying to solve it but I don't get it right.
    The dots between the 6 and the 3 don't mean anything I just used that to separate the two.

  • first, make the 2 fractions have a common denominator, lets use 6.

    so (5q^2)/6 - q^2/3 = (5q^2)/6 - (2q^2)/6

    now that there is a common denominator, you can simplify.

    (5q^2 - 2q^2) / 6 = (3q^2) / 6

    3/6 = 1/2

    so q^2 / 2

    now solve for q
    q^2/2 = 72
    multiply by 2
    q^2 = 72*2
    q = sqrt(72 *2)

  • (5q^2/6) - ((2/2)*(q^2/3)) = 72

    5q^2. 2* q^2
    ------ - ------ = 72
    6............ 2* 3

    5q^2. 2 q^2
    ------ - ------ = 72
    6.............. 6

    5q^2. - 2* q^2
    ---------------------- = 72
    6.

    3q^2 = 72*6

    q^2 =(452/3)= 144

    q = + or - square root of (144)

    q=+ - (12)

  • 5q^2.... q^2
    ------ - ------ = 72
    6.........3

    3 (5q^2) - 6 (q^2) = 72
    _____________
    18

    15q^2 - 6q^2= 72
    __________
    18
    15q^2 - 6q^2= 1296

    9q^2= 1296

    q^2= 144

    q= 12

  • 5q^2.... q^2
    ------ - ------ = 72
    6.........3

    5q^2.... 2q^2
    ------ - ------ = 72
    6.........6

    3q^2= 72(6)
    q^2 = 144
    q = +-12

  • 5q^2.... q^2
    ------ - ------ = 72
    6.........3

    5q^2.... 2q^2
    ------ - ------ = 72
    6.........6

    => 7q^2 = 6(72)
